Arriving in Chiang Mai, I didn't really know what to expect as I didnt do enough research. But damn it, it's one of my favourite places, so god that I have been considering my options regarding moving there. The city itself is a great hustle and bustle that is not too large and not too small, has the hectic lifestyle in the streets that I like and the bonus is that natural beauty is only a 20 minute ride away.
Within the main city of Chiang Mai you have the options of seeing the different late night markets, a bit of a party scene at Zoey in Yellow, Jazz bars like Boy Blue Jazz bar in the Kalaar night market, and Muay Thai fights. On the outskirts when you get out of the border of the main square, you have great sites to see such as Tiger Temple, waterfalls, a national lake, temples, elephant rides, nature treks.. the list is humungous!

After a few days in Chiang Mai, with the original intention of going to Chiang Rai, we jumped on a couch to Pai; a mellow town further north full of travellers. Pai got very hyped up and for me it wasn't all that, but it is definitely worth going to see for yourself. The main centre is about 2 min streets and 5 in-between, a load of bars, a great walking street in the evening with food stalls set up. The for was pretty good. a lot less sugary than in central Thailand, great prices for example; 5 gyoza for 10Bt, 5 chicken skewers for 10Bt, sushi 10Bt a piece. You can literally walk around and not pick a main meal but just get little bits to fill your tummy.
We rented mopeds out there too, and ventured out of town, that's what is really good about Pai, great scenes to see. You have the choice out of the hot springs, the canyon, the infamous land split, waterfalls, and the Chinese village. They were really worth seeing.
