I've never been to anywhere this side of Euerope before and bloody hell I have to say its damn worth it. I didn't get to paint this time round as the city is massive and it took me a while to find info on a store to get paint. But I definitely say there are so many spots and there is a great painting scene out there.
5 days, £500, and you will live like a king! Living costs are a third of the price in the UK, food is unbelievable, travel is cheap with so many different modes of transport and I definitely advise utilising it to get the most out of the city. Being an insanely hilly place your legs are going to get a work out.
I was staying in a popular area called Taksim which I guess you could compare to West End in London. This is situated on the European side of Istanbul (there is an Asian side too which is separated by the sea), which is quite modern. Everyone knows about the Grand Bazaar, the big trading/ bartering district which is located in Sultanahmet, again more water separating but just a train ride away. Great architecture displayed by mosques, its quite unique. It's like being in Assassins Creed!
Stray cats and dogs are everywhere and the most beautiful thing, is that locals take care of them, they feed, tend to wounds, pamper. It was really refreshing to see humans taking care of what we see as pests over here.
The graff out there was quite inspiring too. Was real good to see the number of dubs and shutters been done.
It was great to catch Hombre out there too.
