Pencil Portraits

Gavlyn

As I probably mentioned, not too long ago near the beginning of the year I was finding it hard to get back into sketching and coming up with ideas. Whenever I hit a wall like this I like to revert back to some classic/ traditional approaches. Many times this is just some nice pencil portraits. This helps me get back to understanding facial structure, tones and values, shading. As someone who draws a lot of characters this is very important, and as you carry on you find yourself getting back into the swing of finding ways to animate parts of the sketch or make it your own with the style. I'm not a huge fan of photorealism, that's not my goal, I like things to look as realistic as possible but that's not my end goal.

LTJ BUKEM

Today's sketch goes out to the legend LTJ Bukem The UK music scene has been one of the biggest influences for me and what I do. It's funny, most of the time people want to dig into the background of an artist that inspires you. I've ever felt to dig into Bukem's history regarding whee he's from, hobbies all that jazz. His production just tells you what he's about and where to meet him. Respect to all the old school DnB heads out there.
